Digger
Martin Patrick Kelly was born at Nullawil on 24 October 1894. He was the 5th child of Martin and Bridget Kelly.
The Kelly farm was about three miles north of Nullawil on the Tyrrell Creek.
He was called Digger by one of his little neighbours when he arrived home from the First World War.
During the war he spent some time in France as a lead rider. He came home from the war as a sick man.
He died in November 1974.
Bridget Kathleen (Kath) Hogan was born at home Tara Karyrie on 6 May 1900. She was the 10th child of Cornelius and Bedelia Hogan.
She went to school at Karyrie Primary and later to the Convent school at St.Arnaud.
The Tara homestead is about 8 miles north-east of Birchip and Hogans still live there.

Granny and Digger married at Karyrie in the Catholic Church on 20 January 1920 and they came to live at Boxglen Nullawil. They lived there until 1956 and moved to Birchip after Bob married. They had 6 children who all grew up on the farm and went to school at Nullawil West Primary school. These children were 5 girls and 1 boy : Aileen, Greta, Kath, Rita, Dot and Bob.
Aileen
Aileen Maureen was born on 17 August 1920 and later married Jim McLoughlan.
They had 8 children : Patrick, Michael, Brian, Kathleen, Shane, Gerard, Mary and Jimmy.
Greta
Margaret Mary (Greta) was born on 21 August 1921 and later married Jim Ryan.
They had three children : Peter, Bernie and Rosalie.
Kath
Kathleen Elizabeth was born on 13 March 1923 and later married Reg Lehmann.
They had four children : Joan, Brian, Roger and Anne.
Rita
They had 10 children : Lorraine, John, Martin, Leonard, James, Paul, Gavin, Ian, Briga and Austin.
Dot
They had 8 children : Carmel, Janice, Kevin, Mary, Valerie, Barbara, Leonie and Tony.
Bob
Robert Lawrence was born on 17 January 1927 and later married Pat Humphreys.They had 14 children : Martin, Danny, Louise, Claire, Dympna, Genevieve, Richard, Eric, Yvonne, Leo, Mary Ellen, Katherine, Andrew and Owen.
Owen is the only grandchild of Granny and Digger to be born after Digger died.

In 1982, Granny put some articles (e.g.coins of the day, Digger's war medals) in a time capsule that the Birchip Shire Council buried at the time of their Centenary. This will be dug up in 2032 and is addressed to Owen Kelly (Bob's youngest son). If Owen is not there another descendent of Granny and Digger will be able to open it.
